IAR Systems 8051 Partnership Brings High-Productivity Design and Debug Tools to 8051 Developers

IAR Systems today is announcing that support for the 8051 MCUs we offer is built into their latest release of the Embedded Workbench for 8051 (version 9.10). Customers have asked us for this support because the IAR tool set is growing in popularity due to its excellent productivity features and often better compiled code results.
Embedded Workbench for 8051 includes Integrated Development Environment (IDE) tools, Build Tools, and the IAR C-SPY Debugger (see figure. from IAR Systems). It works in conjunction with our native on-chip debug package and external debug pod, using either a four-wire JTAG or single-wire SWAT interface.
In addition to CAST 8051 support, Embedded Workbench now supports devices with a Multiplication-Division Unit (MDU)—an option for our S8051XC3—and yields better compiler results. Read more about these new features on IAR's product news page, or in their press release.
8051 microcontrollers still offer an efficient and effective alternative to 32-bit processors in products ranging from USB thumb drives to washing machines to complex wireless-communication SOCs.
